14 Year Old Raped and Impregnated, And Must Now Share Parental Rights With Her Attacker

Rapist's paternity rights locks his victim into a 16-year relationship with him. According to reports by Alternet.org, rape victim, referred to as H.T., was impregnated by her attacker in 2009 at just age 14. She's currently suing Massachussets to stop the "court ordered 16 year unwanted relationship" that's mandating that her attacker be a part of her life for parental reasons. "Melendez pleaded guilty to rape in September, 2011 (Norfolk Criminal Docket No . CR200900499) and was sentenced to probation for 16 years. As a condition of probation, Melendez was ordered to initiate proceedings in family court, declare paternity as to the child born of his crime, (paternity had already been determined in the criminal case, via DNA testing), and comply with the family court's orders throughout the probationary period. H.T. and her family adamantly expressed discontent with the family court proceedings but to no avail. But it gets worse. In June 2012, H.T. found out that her attacker, Jamie Melendez, was seeking visitation rights. "Melendez had no prior contact with the child and had expressed no interest in the child, but no Massachusetts law forbids the enforcement of visitation rights by a biological father who causes a child's birth through the crime of rape," the complaint states. After a family court judge ordered Melendez to pay $110 a week in child support, Melendez asked for visitation rights, and offered to withdraw his request in exchange for not having to pay child support, according to the lawsuit. The request was denied. H.T. asked that the judge review his decision and in addition to, free her from all obligation to be present at meetings involving her rapist. Her requests were sent to family court, denied again,  thus continuing the mandatory family court proceedings. "An estimated 35,000 babies are born from rape every year," the complaint states. "No state court has ever issued an order such as the one at issue here. Granting the plaintiff's requested relief will inhibit state court judges in Massachusetts and elsewhere from similarly depriving rape victims of their liberty, personal autonomy and due process." H.T. is still seeking annulment of the order, but to date has yet to be successful. What would you do? Share this:TweetShare on...

Meet The Woman Who Prevented a Mass School Shooting With Compassion

On Tuesday, a 20 year old gunman, armed with an AK47 bypassed security into an elementary school near Atlanta. Instead of fleeing for safety as most would have done, Antoinette Tuff approached him immediately, and began reasoning with the gunman. He continued loading his ammo telling the school clerk he had nothing to live for.   "I just started talking to him ... I let him know what was going on with me and that it would be OK," she said. "I give it all to God, I'm not the hero. I was terrified." In an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, she spoke about how the hour long conversation focused not only on him, but in an effort to be relatable, her life as well. "I just started telling him stories," she said, and things like, "You don't have to die today." Tuff told reporters that through her own life's stories and tragedies, she was able to convince the gunman to put the guns down and surrender. She courageously ensured the safety of approximately 870 pre-kindergarten to fifth grade students at the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Decatur, Georgia through the power of compassion. Share this:TweetShare on...

Florida Mother Abandoned Her Infant With a Stranger from Facebook in Walmart

According to reports by the Atlanta Journalistic Constitution, a 27 year old Florida mother abandoned her infant child with a stranger she'd recently met from Facebook. The two had only met face-to-face twice before the incident, in which both times the mother needed a ride from her Facebook "friend", Pigge Berlus. This was the first time he had met Manoucheka Fortin's child in which she was again in need of a ride, this time to Wal-Mart. The two only knew each other by their online names. Hers, Ketia, and his Jonas. Berlus told her he had to be at work so Fortin promised him she'd be right back out. Several hours later and one hour late for work, Berlus left the baby and his phone number with Walmart's customer service department. According to police, Fortin left the infant without food, water, or diapers.  Manoucheka showed up 20 minutes after the police arrived and now faces criminal charges for child neglect. I seriously wish parenting skills were a requirement to make a baby. smh Share this:TweetShare on...

Instagram is At It Again With The Largest Gun Bust in New York History. #NoFilter

4 words: Aspiring rapper, Instagram,.....you can bet that whatever the next word is won't be good. But what you didn't expect is that history was made as the largest gun bust in New York to ever happen was the result of the first two ingredients mixing with criminal activity. Oh and don't forget to sprinkle a little ignorance on top, just for taste. According to reports by MSN.com, up and coming(that's a stretch) rapper out of Brooklyn, Matthew Best, better known(that's also a stretch) as "Neno Best", was verifying his hood credibility via Instagram with photos and video of his illegal weapons he was selling. After choosing just the right angle for his firearms' portraits, it dawned on him that this might be a bad idea but too little, too late. NYPD got a hold of the footage and uncovered a gun trafficking ring that stretched over several states. 243 handguns, nine rifles, and two shotguns were seized, the largest gun bust in New York's history. #LOL #NoFilter Here's the funny thing about being an aspiring gangster rapper while being a real criminal at the same time. One requires you to do whatever you can to be noticed and the other requires you to do whatever you can to not be noticed, but you can't do both. Well, Neno Best, made his choice. But on the bright side, there's less guns on the streets, he has the media coverage he's always strived for, and also some prison stripes for good measure. Unlike most criminals turned superstars, he didn't get "snitched on". He got caught because of his Instagram addiction. Kinda hard to make that into a song, but he's going to have plenty of time to figure that out now.   Share this:TweetShare on...

This is Not for “Baby Mamas”

Society has been blurring the lines between a "baby mama" and a single mother for far too long. So just to trace over and redefine that line, I want to be very clear. This is not a post for the baby mama.  That means the going out every weekend while your child is at your mom's house types. The laid up with some random dude while your baby is crying because he's hungry, only to turn up your stereo louder to drown him out types. The ones with a 100% virgin remy fresh weave every week while your child can't even get school clothes, using your WIC check to buy sandwich meat for your "man" so he can have something to eat while he plays Call of Duty, or the twerking workshop giving to your two year old daughter so you can get Worldstar famous and meet 2 Chainz types. No boo. Not you.   This post is a salute to the real mothers out there that are making it happen on their own. Those women who cry themselves to sleep at night, not because they're lonely, but because they know their child deserves two parents but they're only capable of being one. The mothers who see their child's father spending money on random chicks while she's struggling to pay for daycare. Those who go to church with their children trying to steer them the right way, but have to endure hypocritical stares from all of the holier than thou's because she had children "out of wedlock" and has to take care of them on her own. Those mothers that try to ignore their own hunger pangs so their children will never know the feeling. Those mothers who lost their children's father to death, or something completely out of their control, but have to live in a society that judges first, asks questions later. Those strong, may bend but never break, never giving up, faith having, single mothers. I salute you. I had the honor of witnessing one of you first-hand growing up.  She earned a degree, started her own business, and raised 4 children by herself thus proving that her God was bigger than her trials. I'm her youngest and I couldn't be more proud to call her my mother. No longer to be confused with "baby mama".   Edit: Nov. 25th: To read my debut novel, A Cheating Man's Heart, click here-> http://www.amazon.com/Cheating-Mans-Heart-Derrick-Jaxn-ebook/dp/B00GPVD2US   Share this:TweetShare on...
